You may be the one who built the fountains fifty years ago, or tried to shoot Jews last week in the Holocaust Museum in Washington, or you may be the ever-targeted Jewish person, or the one forced to drink from the other fountain but at this moment, in this text, God, in Jesus, means for you to feel graciously pursued. Yes, the Samaritan woman at the well was an immoral woman, sexually immoral, ostracized from her community, loaded down with shame and guilt. This same Jesus would go to Calvarys holy mountain, where he would make the atoning sacrifice for her sinsand not for her sins only, but also for your sins and mine, for the sins of the whole world.
